In the music department there is a big poster on the noticeboard which tells you when the different music clubs are on. For all lunchtime music clubs, please ensure that you either bring a packed lunch or get an early lunch pass from Mrs Goldup beforehand. Choir is on a Monday lunchtime at 1:00pm. Orchestra is on a Tuesday lunchtime at 1:00pm. Brass band and African drumming is on a Wednesday lunchtime at 1:00pm. Clarinet and sax group is on a Thursday morning at 8.45am. Finally, Flute ensemble is on a Friday morning at 8:45am. Usually, we will have a school concert at the end of each term which is great fun. You might have the opportunity to play with your music group and will definitely play with orchestra. REMEMBER: Do not forget your instrument as it is your responsibility to remind yourself!
For the girls- there is a mixture of sport clubs including netball, hockey, rounders and cricket. The training is usually once a week either during lunch or after school. For the boys- there is equally a range of sporting activities which you can take part in. This includes; football, rugby and cricket. Boys and girls- you can also get involved in cross country and athletics. There are school fixtures that may require a school minibus trip to another school. If you are interested in any of the above- please ensure you observe the notice boards or ask the P.E teachers. You may need to add your name on a list.
There are many trips which you can go on during your time at St Marys and they are all brilliant! (If you wish to find out more information about school trips, please visit the school website. St Marys produce a drama production every 2 years for students throughout the school who would like to take part. The school has performed different productions from musicals to plays. During my time at the school they have performed Bugsy Malone and Journey’s End. If you get the opportunity to get involved in the next production, I really encourage you to audition as I have been in both of these school productions. I met many other students across the year groups which made me feel more comfortable within the school. Look out for the next production and auditions are on the notice board in the English department.
There are many other clubs and activities in school which you can get involved in. School Student Council focus on improving the school, whether its building new toilet blocks or giving their view on potential new candidates for teaching positions. If you are interested in this position, you will need to fill out an application form. Usually, the Year 11 reps will do an assembly on school council to the year group, this will give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may need answering after the assembly. Secondly, in your form there will be a position for every class member to be on Office duty. Every term, a new form will get the experience of being on office duty. A pair of students from a form will sit next to the office and deliver any news that the students need to know, whether the students are getting picked up by their parents or delivering an exercise book that they lost. Being on office duty really boosts the confidence of students as you speak to new people, new teachers and new classes. It also helps you get to know the school surroundings and quickly familiarise yourself with the school.
